Yapping, for those who overthink it.
20 years as a professional speaker. This is my strategy:

- Immediately announce what you’re going to talk about.
- Then breathe.
- Then banter a little.
- Then get into the meat and potatoes.
- Don’t be afraid to give it away. Make room for more. People won’t remember everything, but they’ll remember the essence of you.
- Inspiration is the why. Implementation is where you make your money.
- The HOW is how you get paid.
- Build a solid intro for the replay, not the room.
- Say what you’re going to say. Say it. Say why. Say it again.
- Every few minutes, catch up the latecomers: “If you’re just joining me…”
- Don’t obsess over live numbers. The replay is the real audience.
- Clipping is where you win.
- Yapping requires a villain. Name the person, the system, the bad advice. A villain gives you a point of view, and a point of view gives you passion.
- Know who this is for and how it helps them.
- Pick a framework. Yours, someone else’s, or one you bought. Nobody talks about buying frameworks enough.
- You don’t need to be perfect, but you do need to prepare.
- Talk in sound bites.
- Have talking points. Have notes. It’s okay I promise
- You don’t always have to Jay-Z your way into everything off the dome.
- Bonus: give them a destination. A next step. A call to action.
